Hand made tile making has been taking place at Burwell in Cambridgeshire since 1993. The company was set up by the Ely Preservation Trust to supply clay roof tiles for properties in conservation areas of Ely where modern concrete tiles were not in keeping with the original clay pegtiles.
All tiles are manufactured by the local workforce from locally dug Cambridge Gault clay. The tiles are produced in the traditional way with wooden moulds and allowed to air dry before being fired in the kiln.

The company is totally committed to the needs of conservation. Following the success of the pegtiles, the company has increased the range of clay products to include pantiles, bricks, floor pammets, and a comprehensive range of wall copings to suit any wall from a church wall to a small garden wall with half round copings. All products have the characteristic Cambridge buff colouring.
Cambridgeshire Tile and Brick Company is able to produce clay products to customer's own specific requirements. Previous special products have included roof ridges with finnials, extra large floor bricks and specially designed large wall copings for a decorative feature on a listed building.
We take great pride in working with this clay and we consider we are able to respond to all requests for product no matter how customised the requirement.
