TRADITIONAL HANDMADE CLAY TILES FROM CAMBRIDGE GAULT CLAY

Over a hundred years have passed since the gault clay
beds of Cambridgeshire were last used to create the
varied yellow to salmon pink tile roofs that are a unique
characteristic of this part of England.

Scarcity of salvaged tiles has created an urgent need for hand made tiles from local gault clay that are virtually identical to the original product.

We, at Cambridgeshire Tile and Brick Company, with generous help from English Heritage and several local authorities, have produced a pegtile that fulfils this need. In addition to the pegtiles, we have produced a range of fittings including ridges, bonnets, valleys and other fittings needed for traditional roofing needs.

Our tiles are being used to restore or re-roof historic and listed buildings. However, more and more they are being used on new buildings being erected in conservation areas.

The company's products are the only truly locally produced gault clay tiles and fittings, and are hand moulded in the traditional way with characteristic variations in colour in each piece. These variations are a natural phenomenon based on the strata the clay originates from and the temperature the products are fired at.

We are committed to developing our product range to include all other brick and tile forms i.e. pantiles, bricks, floor pammets and wall copings, using the locally dug Cambridge Gault Clay.
